Over time, our nails can become weak and brittle due to frequent exposure to chemicals, regular hand washing, and age.
To help, we wanted to share some tips on strengthening your nails so that you can keep your nails happy and healthy.
5 Tips for Strengthening Nails
Weak nails can snap or break, which can lead to discomfort, not to mention that they can ruin the look you are going for.
Luckily, if you want to strengthen your nails, then there are a number of ways to do this, and it is easier than you think.
- Use hand cream regularly - this will help to keep your nails moisturised and prevent them from drying out, becoming brittle and splitting or chipping.
- Even more important than hand cream is cuticle oil - using cuticle oil daily will keep your cuticles and the nail matrix where the nail forms nourished. Meaning that as they grow out they'll be more healthy.
- Wear gloves when cleaning or doing household chores - this will protect your nails from harsh chemicals and detergents.
- Eat a healthy diet - make sure you're getting enough biotin, which is a water-soluble vitamin that helps to form strong nails. You can find biotin in egg yolks, nuts and seeds.
- Bad removal of nail polish can damage your nails, so be gentle and don't be tempted to pick or peel it off. This can take off layers of your natural nails too which can make them thin and bendy. Just take your time and be gentle with your gel removal.

How To Strengthen Weak Nails
If your nails are super weak, then first things first, you need to find something to protect them. Doing a gel manicure on yourself can be a great way to protect your nails from damage while you are trying to strengthen them. They also look super cute too!
Another thing that can help to strengthen your nails is to avoid getting them wet as much as possible. When your nails are wet, they tend to get even weaker. Wet nails are very easy to break or snap.
If you have to get your hands wet, then try to wear gloves.
Finally, making sure that your nails are properly hydrated can also help to strengthen them. This means regularly applying hand cream and cuticle oil.
These can be applied whether you are wearing nail varnish or not to ensure that your nails aren't dehydrated.
How to Remove Gel Nail Polish
Step One: Buff the surface of the nails with a nail file to remove the shine of the top coat. This must be done firmly as the surface must be opened up to allow you to penetrate the gel polish UV lacquer, but be careful not to damage the nail.
Step Two: Soak a cotton pad with Mylee Gel Remover and place it onto the nail plate, securing it with a foil wrap.
Step Three: After 10 to 15 minutes, firmly pull the pads off the nails, making sure you gently push away any loose product with a cuticle pusher or orange stick.
Step Four: If there is product remaining on the nail, re-buff and re-wrap the nail.
Step Five: Once all the product is removed, apply cuticle oil and hand cream to hydrate your nails.
Removing your nail varnish can be very drying for the nails. You need to remember to rehydrate them with hand cream and cuticle oil.
Tip: Don't apply cuticle oil or hand cream if you are going to apply a new mani straight away. Do it after you've finished your new mani. This is because having cream or oil on the nails before application means the polish can't adhere properly and is likely to lift or peel off.

How To Use Mylee 5 in 1 Builder Base Strengthening Gel
The 5 in 1 Builder Gel has a number of uses; however, its general application remains the same. You can paint it on, much like you would any nail varnish before curing it under the LED or UV lamp.
Once it is cured, you can file off any rough edges to finish off the look. You can also build it up in layers to give more strength!
If you are using it as a basecoat, then obviously, you can then proceed to the next steps in your manicure. However, if it is the topcoat, then this will be the final step for you.
Use Cuticle Oil
Cuticle oil is a great product, and you should definitely have one in your nail care kit. It helps to hydrate and moisturise your nails to keep your manicure looking fresher for longer.
You simply apply it to your cuticles and nail beds before massaging in.
FAQs
Can you use a nail hardener under gel polish?
In all honesty, it depends on the formula of the nail hardener. Some formulas aren't necessarily designed to accompany gel polishes, and the chemical compositions aren't suited to each other. So be sure to read up on the specs of the nail hardener before purchasing.
Do you need a base coat under strengthening gel?
You do not need to use a base coat under the 5 in 1 Builder Gel because it can act as a base coat itself. We'd recommend using a base coat under the coloured builder gels, but it's not needed with the clear formula.
How do you remove Mylee 5 in 1 Builder Base Strengthening Gel?
The 5 in 1 Builder Gel can be easily removed with gel remover or acetone - it won't be removed with regular nail varnish remover. It needs to be soaked off. As mentioned above, this can be done by soaking cotton pads in nail varnish remover before securing them to the nails. You might need to use a nail tool to scrape off the excess.
Can you infill with Mylee 5 in 1 Builder Base Strengthening Gel?
The short answer is yes. The Builder Gel is great for infills. First, you should start by filing down the nails to the desired length and buffing off the top couple of coats. You can then use the builder base to infill your nails before creating your next manicure look on top.
