Gel Polish Health & Safety
Are you a fan of gel polish but have concerns about its safety?
We totally get it. At Mylee, we want to make sure that you have all the information you need to feel confident and fabulous while using our products.
Let's clear the air. We sell over a million bottles of gel polish each year, and allergic reactions to our products are in the minority. All of our products go rigorous assessment including the safety, toxicology and history of use of all ingredients, in the UK by an external 3rd party compliance official before being sold to ensure they are safe for use when used in normal &/or reasonably foreseeable conditions of use. So you can clearly check for any ingredients, if you've got a known allergy to gels. We understand that everyone's unique and can react differently to things. If you've had an allergic reaction before, please avoid using it again.
Mylee is now a HEMA-free brand. This means we no longer include the adhesive chemical hydroxyethyl methacrylate which has now been associated with sensitisation and skin allergies.
What about our UV lamp? Make sure to cure your product for the recommended amount of time and use our Mylee lamp with Mylee gels for the best results.
Watch our favourite nail tech to the stars, Tinu Bello, offer her tips to help you achieve the perfect mani without any mishaps! Her key takeaways? When prepping your natural nails and cuticles, be gentle – avoid over-filing and only remove the white, dead skin around your cuticles so you won’t damage live tissue. Don't get product on your skin while applying the polish, but if you do, use an angled brush to wipe it off before curing.
If you follow these steps, you’ll be all set for healthy gel manis!
Yes, gel polish is completely safe to use – provided you apply and remove it correctly, don't get it on your skin (and clean it up quickly if you do) and aren’t allergic to any of the ingredients used. We list all of our ingredients on our website, so you can check if everything is suitable for you. Check out our video for more info about safely applying gel polish, which you can view here.
HEMA (or hydroxyethyl methacrylate) is an adhesive ingredient commonly found in gel polishes that can cause allergic reactions – but not in Mylee’s! We’re now a HEMA-free brand, so you don't need to worry about HEMA in our products.
We list all of our product ingredients on our website underneath each product description, so you can refer back to this before purchasing. If you’re allergic to any of the ingredients listed, you obviously should not use the product. If you have any questions or concerns about the ingredients in our products, please don’t hesitate to get in touch! We’d be more than happy to help.
Please read our blog post Mylee Gel Polish and UV Lamps: Are They Safe for You for detailed instructions and advice on how to apply gel polish safely.
Mylee’s UV and LED nail lamps are safe to use. Any exposure to UV rays is significantly less than if you were outside in the sun, but you may choose to wear gloves or an SPF hand cream. Be careful not to get any creams or oils on the nails before gel application.
