International Women's Day is globally recognised as 8th March. It is a day acknowledging and celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women around the world. It is highly noted and recognised as a focal point in the women's rights movement that helps to bring attention to issues such as gender equality, violence and abuse against women and reproductive rights.
Break The Bias
This year's theme is #BreakTheBias. International Women's Day are asking for everyone to stand together and break the bias in our communities, workplaces and education systems by striking the #BreakThe Bias pose! Cross your arms in solidarity and share your photo or video by using the hashtag above on all social media platforms.
The Colour Purple
The colour purple has a huge significance to IWD. It is historically associated with gender equality and was used as a representation of “the royal blood that runs in our veins” by the suffragettes in the early 20th century.
It has continued its significance in the 60s and 70s by feminists of the Women's liberation as a tribute to the suffragettes and its importance is still vital to this day.
Will you stand with us this international women's day and strike the pose to #BreakTheBias ?
Happy International Women's Day from all of us here at Mylee!
