At Mylee, our range of Magic Extender Gel is a firm favourite with nail enthusiasts. But what are Magic Extender Gel nails? What do you need to create them, and how do you apply Magic Extender Gel for the perfect manicure?

We’ve got the answers to all those questions and more so that you can get the lowdown on what makes these nail extensions so incredible for creating long nails at home.

Keep reading for everything you need to know about Magic Extender gel nails!

What is Mylee Magic Extender Gel?

Magic Extender Gel is a new type of gel formula you can use to create overlays or sculpt strong and lightweight nail extensions.

It’s stronger and more durable than traditional gel polish and it’s a lot lighter than sculpting heavy acrylic nails.

Magic Extender Gel is the texture of a paste you can pat it into shape with your brush and it will hold its shape. It’s a lot thicker than regular gel nail polish or Builder Gel and won’t self-level either, which means you can build a gorgeously arched apex for your nail.

Unlike acrylic nail extensions, Magic Extender Gel won’t harden or cure with exposure to the air. This means you can take your time sculpting your nails and then cure them under an LED or UV lamp. It also doesn’t have the strong smell of acrylic nails, either!

How Long Do Magic Extender Gel Nails Last?

Magic Extender Gel will last on your nails as long as you want it to and grow out flawlessly – if applied and looked after correctly. Once it’s cured, it won’t chip or flake!

If you are using it to extend your nails, you must make sure you build a strong apex to your nail to give balance and strength to your nails.

This means adding a bit bigger bump of Extender Gel over the nail bed, so there’s less pressure applied to the tips of your nails when doing everyday tasks – like typing or washing up – and less chance of your nail extensions cracking or breaking.

The Difference Between Magic Extender Gel and Builder Gel

We can’t say that Magic Extender Gel is better than Builder Gel, or that Builder Gel is better than Magic Extender Gel, as they are both very different products.

However, they can both be used to add strength to the nail and to create extensions.

Magic Extender Gel Builder Gel
Thicker, paste-like consistency Create much longer nail extensions Thinner consistency Create nail extensions up to 1cm long
Can be used as a strengthening overlay Can be used to create nail extensions using multiple methods Can be used as a strengthening overlay Can only be used with paper nail forms

Mylee 5-in-1 Builder Gel…

Builder Gel is a thinner consistency than Magic Extender Gel and comes in a bottle with a brush. It’s thicker and stronger than regular gel polish and can be used as a base layer, top coat, and for attaching jewels and decals to your nails.

You can also build it up in several layers as a strengthening layer over your natural nails. If you’d like to extend your nails with Builder Gel you can!

Using paper forms, you can extend your nails up to 1cm in length by brushing the product over the end of your natural nail and onto the form.

This can be built up in several layers, curing thoroughly in between each layer. Then you can pop off your paper form and file it into shape.

…vs Mylee Magic Extender Gel

Magic Extender Gel is a lot thicker and more like a paste consistency when compared to Builder Gel.

It comes in a tube which you can squeeze out, and with the spatula end of the Mylee Nail Gel Dual-edned Tool, you can roll it onto your nail.

Like Builder Gel, you can also use it as a strengthening overlay layer on your natural nail by patting it into place with the brush end of the Dual-Ended Tool dipped in some Slip Solution to stop it from sticking. You can also use it to extend the nail.

But unlike with Builder Gel there are a couple of ways you can extend with Mylee Magic Extender Gel, and you can also create much longer extensions.

You can use paper forms, dual forms or tips to extend your nails – we’ll cover all these below.

Can You Paint Over Magic Extender Gel Nails?

Our Magic Extender Gel is available in 7 beautiful shades, which are: Clear, Nearly Nude, Perfect Pink, Dusky Rose, Lovely Lilac, Milky White and Ballerina.

These colours are beautiful when worn alone, or you can pop a coat of your favourite Mylee shade over the top, as you would paint your normal gel nail polish.

Add a final layer of Top Coat over the top, and you’re good to go!

How to Prep Nails Before Applying Magix Extender Gel

Before you get started on applying your Extender Gel, you must prep your nails properly to ensure good adhesion.

This prep is the exact same as you would do for your regular gel polish– but we’ll tell you how…

Step 1: you need to push back your cuticles and remove any white or dead skin around the cuticle area.

Step 2: Buff your nails with a grit buffer to create some texture on the nail for your polish to adhere to

Step 3: Wipe your nails with Prep & Wipe and Lint Free Wipes to cleanse the nail bed and remove any dust or oil before going in with your base coat.

How to Apply Magic Extender Gel Nails

To show you exactly how to use our Magic Extender Gel, check out our tutorial video and step-by-step guides below on how to safely apply and remove your mani.

HOW TO APPLY MAGIC EXTENDER GEL AS AN OVERLAY

Step 1) Push your cuticles back, file, buff and cleanse your nails with Mylee Nail Prep & Polish Wipe.

Step 2) Apply a thin coat of Mylee Base Coat and cure for 1 minute under a LED lamp or 2 minutes under a UV lamp.

Step 3) Squeeze a small amount of Mylee Magic Extender Gel out of the tube, and slice it with the Mylee Poly Nail Gel Dual-Ended Tool.

Step 4) Roll the Magic Extender Gel onto the nail.

Step 5) Use the brush end of the Mylee Poly Nail Gel Dual-Ended Tool and a small amount of Mylee Slip Solution to lightly pat the Magic Extender Gel.

Step 6) Start at the cuticle and move up the nail to pat the Magic Extender Gel into place

Step 7) Apply to all nails on one hand and cure under a Mylee LED lamp for 1 minute.

Step 8) To smooth the surface, lightly file the nail with a 180-grit file and cleanse your nails.

Step 9) Apply Mylee Top Coat and cure or continue with your favourite gel polish.

HOW TO APPLY MAGIC EXTENDER GEL WITH PAPER FORMS

Step 1) Push your cuticles back, file, buff and cleanse your nails with Mylee Nail Prep & Polish Wipe.

Step 2) Apply a thin coat of Mylee Base Coat and cure for 1 minute under a Mylee LED lamp.

Step 3) Apply the paper form to the nail by setting it snugly under the nail and aligning the middle of the form to the middle of the nail. Make sure there are no big gaps between the form and the nail, and stick the ends together to create a curve.

Step 4) Squeeze a small amount of Mylee Magic Extender Gel out of the tube, slice it with the Mylee Poly Nail Gel Dual-Ended Tool and roll it onto the nail.

Step 5) Use the brush end of the Mylee Poly Nail Gel Dual-Ended Tool and a small amount of Mylee Slip Solution to shape the Magic Extender Gel into place and extend onto the form. Add in extra Magic Extender Gel to create an apex in your nail (this is created by making the product thicker over the nail’s stress area).

Step 6) Apply to all nails on one hand and cure under a Mylee lamp for 1-2 minutes.

Step 7) Once cured, you can remove the paper form from your nail.

HOW TO APPLY MAGIC EXTENDER GEL WITH DUAL FORMS

Step 1) Push your cuticles back, file, buff, and cleanse your nails with Mylee Nail Prep & Polish Wipe.

Step 2) Apply a thin coat of Mylee Base Coat and cure for 1 minute under a Mylee LED lamp.

Step 3) Pick the correct size Mylee Dual Nail Forms for your nails.

Step 4) Squeeze a small amount of Magic Extender Gel out of the tube, slice with the Mylee Poly Nail Gel Dual-Ended Tool and roll it inside the dual form.

Step 5) Use the brush end of the tool and a small amount of Mylee Slip Solution to spread the Magic Extender Gel evenly inside the form.

Step 6) Push the form onto the nail with the cuticle end first, and hold onto the nail for a few seconds so the form attaches to the nail. Remove any product that may have squeezed over the edges of the form using the brush and Slip Solution.

Step 7) Turn your hand over and, using the brush, smooth out the product on the underside of your nails.

Step 8) Cure under a Mylee LED lamp for 1 minute. Once cured, squeeze the end of the dual form to release it from the nail.

Step 9) Use a 180-grit file to smooth the surface and shape the free edge of the nail. Cleanse your nails and apply Mylee Top Coat and cure or continue with your favourite gel polish.

FAQs

How Can You Use Magic Extender Gel?

There are so many ways to use our Magic Extender Gel, the most popular being to create nail extensions. You can do this with either paper forms or dual forms – both work incredibly well! You can also use the Extender Gel as a strengthening overlay on your natural nail.

Is Magic Extender Gel Easy To Use?

If you’ve never created nail extensions yourself before, it might take you a few tries to perfect the application. However, once you’ve got to grips with it, the process becomes much easier and quicker – make sure you follow our step-by-steps!

How Do You Remove Magic Extender Gel?

To remove your Magic Extender Gel mani, use a grit nail file to file down the gel, leaving around 10% of the product to protect the natural nail. Then, soak off the remaining gel by applying cotton pads soaked with Mylee Gel Remover and secure with foil wraps. After 15 minutes, remove the pads and gently push away any loose product with a cuticle pusher or Gel Scraper Tool. To finish, thoroughly wash your hands, and apply Mylee Nail & Cuticle Oil and hand cream. You don’t have to fully remove your Magic Extender Gel every time, though. Infilling is a great option for extending the life of your mani.

Is Magic Extender Gel or Builder Gel Better?

Neither is better than the other since they both work in slightly different ways. If you prefer longer nail extensions, then Magic Extender Gel will be your better choice. But if you’re looking for more natural-looking nail extensions, then Builder Gel is great.
