Matte nail designs are anything but boring. In fact, there are tons of ways you can wear a matte top coat and create a really chic mani.

You can do an all-over matte set or use it with glossy gel polishes for a fun contrast. The possibilities are endless!

Our Matte No Wipe Top Coats are the best of the bunch for creating matte nail looks, too.

Our OG Matte No Wipe Top Coat is perfect for sealing in gel colour and adding a mattified finish. It's also easy to apply and provides a long-lasting, chip-resistant finish for up to 3 weeks.

The Speckled Matte No Wipe Top Coat is also stunning and can be used to create some really fun nail designs (we especially love it at Easter time!).

We've rounded up 5 of our favourite ways to use a matte top coat as magicked up by our brand ambassadors, along with the step-by-steps on how to recreate each one.

#1 Matte Peach Fuzz Nails

@myleebeautyofficial She’s peach perfect 🍑 The glossy swirls adding some ✨to this spring nail look 💅 @mini_mahni using Peach Perfect, High Rise & Matte No Wipe Top Coat #Mylee #nails #gelnails #peachnails #springnails #swirlynails #orangenails ♬ original sound - Myleebeauty

This super sweet look created by our BA @mini_manhi is perfect for refreshing your spring or summer nail game – or brightening up a dull winter day!

She has used a beautiful peach nail colour for the base, which complements her skin tone perfectly and adds a pop of colour. Then, she used our Matte No Wipe Top Coat to create a matte finish on top of the peach, giving it a soft and velvety look.

To top it off, she has used a neon coral shade to elevate the look and add a fun twist. The glossy swirls make this nail design look like a piece of art, and we can't get enough of it!

How to Recreate Our Peach Fuzz Nails

What You'll Need:

  • Base Coat Gel Polish

  • Matte No Wipe Top Coat Gel Polish

  • No Wipe Top Coat Gel Polish

  • Peach Perfect Gel Polish

  • High Rise Gel Polish

  • 12mm Ultra Fine Nail Brush

Step 1) After prepping your nails, apply the Base Coat Gel Polish to your nails and cure under the LED lamp for 60 seconds.

Step 2) Take our Peach Perfect shade and apply to all of your nails. Cure for another 60 seconds. If you get any gel polish on your skin, use our Edit>Undo Pen to clean up the product before curing.

Step 3) Apply the Matte No Wipe Top Coat over your peach-coloured nails. Cure for a further 60 seconds.

Step 4) Dip the 12mm Nail Art Brush into High Rise, and draw the swirl nail art over the matte top coat. You can follow the same design as above, or go with your own creative style. Flash cure for 15 seconds.

Step 5) Clean the nail art brush and dip into the regular No Wipe Top Coat. Paint over the swirls to seal in the colour, taking care not to get the top coat on the matte base. Cure again for a final 15 seconds.

#2 Matte Mini Egg Nails

@myleebeautyofficial Who’s prepping their Easter mani with our Matte Speckled Top Coat? 🐣✨ 📹 - @bykelseyjae using Quite Delightful, Gelato, Once In A Blue Moon, Candy Girl, Freshly Squeezed and Speckled Top Coat #mylee #nails #gelnails #easter #easternails #miniegg #minieggnails #eastermani #specklednails ♬ original sound - Myleebeauty

We always bring this look back out for Easter and springtime, and it stunningly showcases our Speckled Matte Top Coat!

Our BA @bykelseyjae has used a selection of our beautiful pastel polishes and glazed them over with our Speckled Matte Top Coat. The result is a gorgeous, textured eggshell look that is perfect for the Easter season.

How to Create Our Pastel Mini Egg Nails

What You'll Need:

  • Base Coat Gel Polish

  • Speckled Matte No Wipe Top Coat Gel Polish

  • Quite Delightful Gel Polish

  • Gelato Gel Polish

  • Once In A Blue Moon Gel Polish

  • Candy Girl Gel Polish

  • Freshley Squeezed Gel Polish

  • Pro Salon Series Convex™ LED Lamp

Step 1) Prep your nails and apply a layer of our Base Coat Gel Polish to your nails. Cure for 60 seconds under the Pro LED Lamp.

Step 2) Using our pastel polishes, apply the colours over the base coat. You can follow the order in which our BA has done, or however you'd like. Cure for 60 seconds.

Step 3) Apply a second layer of each colour to build up the opacity and really make the colour pop. Just make sure to cure after each layer!

Step 4) Take the Speckled Matte No Wipe Top Coat and apply over your pastels. Cure for a final 60 seconds.

#3 Matte Flower Nail Art

Another look perfect for spring and summer is this pretty pastel nail art, topped off using our Matte No Wipe Top Coat.

This mani gives off a really soft and delicate look, which is a winner for getting that clean girl aesthetic. It's also really easy to create – despite the intricate look, it can be done in a few steps!

How to Create Our Matte Flower Nails

What You'll Need:

  • Base Coat Gel Polish

  • Matte No Wipe Top Coat Gel Polish

  • Peach Perfect Gel Polish

  • Guilty Pleasure Gel Polish

  • Pistachio Gel Polish

  • Break The Ice Gel Polish

  • 7mm Ultra Fine Nail Brush

  • Dotting Tool

  • Pro Salon Series Convex™ LED Lamp

Step 1) Prep your nails and apply a layer of Base Coat Gel Polish. Cure for 60 seconds under your LED lamp.

Step 2) Use Peach Perfect, Guilty Pleasure and Pistachio respectively to create French tips on your little, ring, and thumb fingernails. We've gone for a smile line French tip here, and the nail art brush is a great little tool for creating that perfect curved line. Cure for 60 seconds.

Step 3) Use your Dotting Tool and dip into these shades again, creating little flowers on your middle and index nails. To do this, create 5 dots in a circle, and connect them together using the clean nail art brush. Flash cure for 15 seconds.

Step 4) Dip your Dotting Tool into the white gel polish – Break The Ice – and create a centre dot on each flower. Flash cure for 15 seconds.

Step 5) Apply the Matte No Wipe Top Coat over your design and cure for 60 seconds.

#4 Matte Nude Gel Nails

Sometimes, a nude mani is all you need for a sophisticated and elegant look. But why not add a twist to it with a matte finish?

This simple yet stunning mani created by @phfashioninsta features a soft pink nude polish, with a glitter accent nail. You can switch out the nude shade for one that complements your skin tone, or stick to the shade we've used in this look for an identical design.

How to Do Matte Nude Nails

What You'll Need:

  • Base Coat Gel Polish

  • Matte No Wipe Top Coat Gel Polish

  • No Wipe Top Coat Gel Polish

  • 5-in-1 Builder Gel Peach

  • Access All Areas Gel Polish

  • Pro Salon Series Convex™ LED Lamp

Step 1) Prep your nails and apply the Base Coat. Cure for 60 seconds under the LED lamp.

Step 2) Apply the Peach Builder Gel to each nail (or whichever nude polish you've opted for). Cure for another 60 seconds.

Step 3) Take Access All Areas and apply to your ring fingernail. Cure for 60 seconds.

Step 4) Use the Matte No Wipe Top Coat and apply to your nails, apart from your glitter accent nail. Here, you should use a regular No Wipe Top Coat. Cure for a final 60 seconds.

#5 Green Matte French Mani

We couldn't finish off our list without an honourable French mani mention, and we are all for this matte take.

Our BA @bella.beauty_salon has created this elevated mani using a gorgeous forest green shade along with our Stamp It Out tool to create flawless French tips. The result? A chic and modern spin on a classic, perfect for any occasion.

How to Recreate Our Matte French Tips

What You'll Need:

  • Base Coat Gel Polish

  • Matte No Wipe Top Coat Gel Polish

  • No Wipe Top Coat Gel Polish

  • Green Velvet Gel Polish

  • Stamp It Out nail stamper

  • Pro Salon Series Convex™ LED Lamp

Step 1) After prepping your nails, apply the Green Velvet shade all over, and cure for 60 seconds under the Convex™ LED Lamp.

Step 2) Apply a further 2 to 3 coats to build up the colour, curing in between each.

Step 3) Use the Matte No Wipe Top Coat and apply it to your green nails.

Step 4) Paint some of the green gel polish onto the Stamp It Out cushion, and press each nail tip into the stamper at a 45-degree angle. The more pressure you apply, the thicker the French tip will be. You should also slightly roll your nail tip as you stamp to get the curved smile line. Cure for 60 seconds.

Step 5) Apply the classic No Wipe Top Coat to your French tips and cure for a final 60 seconds.

FAQs

Do I need to wipe the tacky layer with your Matte Top Coats?

No, you don't need to wipe the tacky layer. Both our classic Matte and Speckled Matte Top Coats have a 'no-wipe' formula, so you can cure and go without any extra steps.

When should I apply a matte top coat?

As with any top coat, you should apply a matte top coat as the last step in your design to seal in the colour. However, if you're creating nail art on top, you can use gel colour straight after curing your matte top coat.

Just make sure to use a regular top coat over your design for long-lasting wear. You can use a nail art brush to apply the regular top coat to your design without painting over the matte finish.

What colours look good with matte nails?

Anything and everything! There are no limits on what colours you can pair with a matte finish. We do think they look especially beautiful with pastel and nude shades, particular in spring and summer.

Are matte nails still popular?

Matte nails are certainly still popular. We think they're perfect for elevating a simple nail look and adding a touch of sophistication. It's also a great option for those who prefer a more subtle look compared to glossy nails.
