Gel Nail Polish Removal FAQs

Can I remove gel nail polish with normal nail polish remover?

No, you can’t remove gel polish with regular nail polish remover. Gel polish must be removed with an acetone-based product, like Gel Remover or Magic Gel Remover. Removers without acetone won’t be able to cut through the gel formula.

What removes gel nail polish?

Acetone or acetone-based solutions should be used to properly remove gel polish. We have an entire gel polish removal range that includes a series of gel removal products, including our Pure Acetone, Pre-Soaked Remover Wraps and Magic Gel Remover.

How do you remove gel nail polish at home?

To remove gel polish using Mylee Gel Remover or Pure Acetone, start by buffing the nail surface using the 100-grit side of our Half Moon Nail File. Soak a cotton pad in Gel Remover or Pure Acetone and place onto your nail, securing with a foil wrap/Soak-Off Clips

Firmly remove the foils after 10-15 minutes, and scrape off any remaining product with a Cuticle Pusher. Repeat if necessary.

Why are my gel nails still tacky after curing?

Your gel nails are supposed to be tacky after every coat to stick the layers together – even after curing. You’ll need to remove the tacky top layer by wiping the final coat with a cleanser (we recommend Prep & Wipe).

Why does some gel polish colour come off on the lint-free wipe when using cleanser?

This is completely normal – the gel colour forms part of the moisture layer that comes out of the polish when it’s been cured. You’ll probably find this happens more with darker colours, but it won’t remove all the polish from your nails, so don’t worry!

Why is my gel polish bubbling?

Bubbling gel polish can indicate that oil residue has been left on the nail surface, meaning you haven’t prepped your nails properly. Always remove any dirt and oil using Prep & Wipe on a Lint-Free Wipe to cleanse your nails.

Bubbling polish can also mean you haven’t cured the polish properly. Always cure your polish for the correct amount of time (30-60 seconds under a Mylee LED lamp), and cure for longer if you’ve applied a thicker layer.

Why isn’t my gel nail polish curing?

It’s likely that you’re not curing your polish for long enough. Our recommendation is to cure between 30-60 seconds under the LED Lamp, or 2 minutes under a UV lamp. It’s important to apply very thin and even coats. Thicker coats of polish need to be cured for longer.

How does Mylee Magic Gel Remover work?

Mylee Magic Gel Remover is an acetone-based gel polish remover that’s brushed onto your nails like a polish and removes the polish in 6 minutes.

To use it, buff your gel nails using the 100-grit side of a Half Moon Nail File and remove the shiny top coat. Brush the Magic Gel Remover onto the gel (avoiding your skin). Wait for 6 minutes, and the polish should start to bubble. Use a Gel Scraper to gently scrape off the gel, repeating if necessary.

Always wash your hands after using any acetone gel remover.
